Reflection: Weeks 7 and 8

WEEKS SEVEN:
Over the last two weeks I have loved the films that we have watched in class. The films are really eye opening and present on topics that I have mostly never heard of and really have an impact. The film "Green" was unreal...to see and hear the stories of those that are affected personally, made this class so much more meaningful, it made me think about the ways in which our daily choices, they ways we make a living, and the products we produce have a impact on our environment and consequently the individuals who reside on our planet! Its one big connection and my question as of lately is how can we be a part of a solution for helping to reduce the negative daily choices, the way we make a living, and products that we produce?

WEEK EIGHT:
During week eight we began to watch the video "Thirst." I cannot begin to imagine if mayor Don Ness. took away our right to water...What would you do? I like the point that Dr. V. brought up in class about how she would fight, protest etc. What would you do... this made me think hard because I would never want to loose that right, and I do not agree with water privatization but there are a lot of issues out there just the same that people do not agree with so would you picket, protest, and let your voice be heard? This is tough......hard to make a call.

MY THOUGHTS:
Reflecting I think that over the last two weeks I have honestly felt very thoughful...I've been paying close attention to my surrounding and really testing myself challenging myself to think outside the box of what I would normally and to be honest there has been a couple of times when I have argued with my boyfriend about enviromental issues...like the charge up car, trying to get him to see things in a green way!

HAve a great SprinG BrEak!

  1. Abbey-
I think these past two weeks were really eye-opening for me as well. I've never thought as water to be an issue, but what if one day it becomes one?! I'm glad you're paying close attention to your surroundings, I think this class has definitely changed me as well. Have a wonderful week off!

  2. Abbey- Congrats on doing what you can to not only challenge yourself, but to challenge others! I remember my 8th grade geography class and a couple of years down the road I can pinpoint exactly that that was the class where I learned to learn. I feel like this environmental health class will be the same way. In ten years we will all look back and realize that some of the things we care about or are doing relate directly to stuff we learned in environmental. I hope your break is going well!! --S

  4. Hey Abbey!

I also think the documentaries are very powerful and helpful for us to see how some people are affected by our actions. I honestly don't know what i'd do if my water rights were taken away. Well I do know for sure that I'd be panicking, probably along with the whole state of MN! It's also really awesome to hear that you're educating your boyfriend about these topics! Great job =D
